revision plan

Basically what i need to do to my paper is, elaborate more of my own personal opinions. I have a lot of facts from other people, but not to many opinions of my own. I need to organize my paper in a more coherent way, to make the reader understand what issues i am trying to address. I seem to have a lot of confusing statements that is hard for the reader to understand. I need to go through my paper and clarify some of the things i may have said. i need to elaborate more on the interviews i conducted, maybe also stating my opinion on the responses they gave me. I feel after attending to all of this, i will have a much better product in the end.

research rough draft

i just finished my rough draft... i now have to work on revising it. I am going to have other individuals read my paper, while filling out the check list to see what they think. This should help me to end up with a well written reasearch paper.

Field work Plan: Interview

Fieldwork Plan: Interview

Name: Frank Cignetti
Head Football Coach at IUP
Email=

October 29, 2004:
Ask Mr Cignetti if it was possible that i could conduct an interview with him regaurding his coaching at IUP.

Develop some way of communication for my questions to be answered. Possible personal interview or email.

Fieldwork Purposes:
1.) To possibly get a information on how this coach would feel if a female ever participated on his team.
2.) Also, maybe find out if he has daugthers of his own. How would he feel if they participated on an all male team. Maybe if they are his own daughters he feel's differently then if they were not.

Interview:
Develop questions to see his opinion on females playing football, and also on his own daughter, if me may have one.

What are you thoughts about females playing football? Do you think it would be different for a gilr to participate as a kicker? That sad, would you allow a competent girl to kick for your team? Do you have any daughters? If either of them had approached you about playing football, what would your response be? Would you allow it?

Fieldwork plan: Interview

Name: Leslie, Pavetto
2002-2003 Men's golf Team
Email=

October 21, 2004: Contact Leslie Pavetto
Ask her if she would be interested in being interviewed due to her participation on an all male golf team.

Develop some way of communication to have my questions answered. Possibly online.

Fieldwork Purposes:
1.) Develop a better understanding of experiences she went through, the big influences on her decision, and the way certain people reacted.
2.) To provide me with her experience at the college level, in relation to another interview I am conducting at the middle school level.

Interview:
Develop questions from her view point to explain her experience and everything else that may effected her playing.

Was it strange for you to participate on an all male team? Did your parents agree with you playing on the male golf team? How did your coach feel about it? Did he treat you any differently than the other golfers? Did the guys ont he team ever act in a certain manner when you out performed tem, being you were ranked in the state? Did anyone ever make comments to you for participating on the men's golf team? Was there anyone that really supported you the whole way, and had an impact on your decision to stick it out your entire high school career?

research proposal

Review of Literature:
Field Work: My research question deals with young girls who have played football, and everyone around them that has had quite the impact on there decision. For this reason, i decided it would be a wise choice to conduct an interview with two young girls who i know, and have played on a all male team.

First i conducted a survery with Leslie Pavetto, a girl you went to my high school, and participated on the male golf team. I thought she would be a good student to interview, because i know she excelled over many of that guys on the team, being ranked in the state. I thought it would be a good point to address, seeing if that made the other males on the golf team have any type of animosity towards her, and her accomplishments.

I then conducted an interview with a young girl Jill, who i found out played football in middle school, but quit when she got into high school. I figured she would also be a good person to interview because she quit for some reason, and i wanted to find out what that reason was. I also wanted to find out, if there was a complete difference in that acts of team mate or coaches in the age difference of when someone plays a male sport.

Books on Sigmund Freud and Title IX:
I found it would be useful to include in my paper the "electra complex" or maybe better known as the "passive opedius complex." It simply states how freud feels that young girls can grow up to want to be a male. Which then made me thing, maybe this is why young girls develop the want to particpate in and all male sport. Maybe that makes them feel more of a man.

I also found a book on title IX. I found that i needed this source just so that there is a basic understanding of what title IX is, and how it directly effects my topic. Such as, girls can not be discriminated and must have the oppurtunity to particpate in any sport not provided for her opposite sex. The only way a female can be cut from the team is if she is untalented, but law suits seem to fly around, because who is one to decide.

Articles, Newspapers, and Journals Online:
Since there doesn't seem to be too many books about young girls playing male sports, and the effects other has on them, i found most of my sources here. Most of these include other females, who particpated in males sports, and the outcome that came from it. This one girl has the dream of playing for the NFL. Another harassed by a coach and team mates. Basically just goes through every case scenario that is possible to happen to these young girls. I found an article that stated they were thinking about developing a female wrestling team, so girls no longer particpate in male sports.

Search plan and project timeline:
Date: Finish gathering sources and elminate the ones i dont see as of any use
Analyze critically the sources of chosen and make sure they are of use
Conduct my survey with Leslie
Conduct my survey with Jill
Start to look at all sources and develop an outline
Review the outline to make sure that i hit all major questions i asked
Develop a rough draft
Get a peer review
Edit that paper
Another peer review
Revies and develop final copy

Front and Back Regions

Goffman does a very good job of portraying the front and back regions by giving us numeral examples of each. It made it rather easy for me to be able to relate those terms toward the research I am doing. The “front region” could be considered what young girls think before they are actually on the team. Maybe how easy they thing it might be, not realizing all the consequences and issues they are about to face. It would seem to me that it would be a lot easier to deal with things when other people don’t seem to be involved. The “back region” would be when participation is done in front of your teammates, or even an audience at the stadium. It would be much more difficult to play up to your full potential when you feel the stress from other people. Hearing rude remarks when you are playing a game makes it rather hard to stay focused. They are related in the same sense, that it still deals with a specific person, its just the audience that seems to change. Even though they relate, the audience leaves for a pretty big outcome difference.
Back region could be used in my research paper because I could find out if it was easier for females who participate in an all male sport, to perform tasks to there full ability with out the presence of other people. Maybe it would be the exact opposite and these young girls perform better when they are under pressure. I know I perform better under pressure, but then again, I never engaged in a dominant male sport.
Possible sources.

Interview my friend leslie who played golf on the mens team for 2 years. Hoping her aspect will be different then the other girl i plan on interviewing

Interview my friends friend Jill who played on the football team in junior high. I figured her feelings about playing would differe greatly then that of someone who played later on.

I was thinking that i could compare the girls and the ages they played.. and see if that has anything to do with the outcome that both girls achieved.
